Pirates of the Caribbean

Davy Jones is a fictional character first appearing in the film *Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest* (2006). He is the captain of the *Flying Dutchman* and a formidable antagonist.

Once a mortal man, Jones was a skilled sailor who fell in love with the sea goddess Calypso. She tasked him with ferrying souls lost at sea to the afterlife. However, when Calypso failed to meet him after ten years, consumed by anger and heartbreak, he abandoned his duty and carved out his own heart, locking it away in the Dead Man's Chest.

This act transformed him into a monstrous creature, a grotesque hybrid of various sea creatures. His appearance includes octopus tentacles for a beard, a crab claw for a hand, and barnacles covering his skin. His crew, comprised of those who owe him their souls, also suffer similar transformations.

Davy Jones controls the Kraken, a monstrous sea creature, and uses it to enforce his will and destroy enemy ships. His primary goal is to escape the power of the East India Trading Company, who control his heart and, therefore, his destiny.
